William Robert “Bill” Perkins, 80, of Fayetteville died February 3, 2018 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. He was born in Laurinburg on July 13, 1937 to the late Robert Perkins and Florence Mumford Cagnina.
Bill is survived by Sue Perkins, his devoted wife of 26 years; son, William Robert Perkins, Jr. (Billy); daughter, Kellie McLendon; granddaughter, Logan McLendon; son-in-law, Steve McLendon, all of Wilmington; brother, Gene Perkins of Biloxi, Miss.; sister, Marie Kinlaw, and her husband, Lonnie Kinlaw, both of Augusta, Ga.
Mr. Perkins was preceded in death by his sister, Bobbie Finer; and niece, Heather Kinlaw.
Bill was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother-inlaw and an avid golfer who served as tournament organizer for the Gen. Hugh Shelton Golf Invitational. Mr. Perkins was inducted into the Gates Four Golf and Country Club Men's Golf Association Wall of Honor in 2017.
Mr. Perkins attended Worth Business College and Data Processing School in Texas, and worked 30 years for North Carolina Natural Gas as Director of Customer Billing. He was active in the United Way of Cumberland County, the Fayetteville Exchange Club and the Fayetteville Jaycees.
A visitation will be held Saturday, February 10, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home, 500 Ramsey St. A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
