Dennis Grow Obituary

Dennis Grow, 71, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 7th, after losing his battle with lung cancer. He died at his home in Fayetteville, with his best friend and ex-wife, Sharon Grow.

His legacy is his four children, Cheri Deneace Elmore, Christina Oxer, Antony Grow, James Andrew Grow, and 8 grandchildren. He also leaves behind his mother, Elizabeth (Scott) Grow, sisters Sue Hardin and Bettie Courtney, and two brothers, Randy and Scotty Grow.

Dennis entered the Army at Ft Knox, and rapidly rose in rank.

He made sergeant after 26 months, the second that can claim this honor. His military career spanned 26 years, serving 4 times in Germany, 3 at Ft Bragg, and Viet Nam. Dennis ended his career as CW3 and Inspector General for motorized vehicles. Post retirement, Dennis worked with Lockheed in repositioning war assets and ten years with Cumberland County.

He found meaning and duty in God and worshipped with the Helen St. Church of Christ. He was a 13th degree Mason, and served his community with vehicle assistance program, taught with Military Outreach, initiated a food distribution program with the city, and gave freely of his time and efforts. He will be sorely missed by his family, as we remember the fun and happy times, his prosthetic ears, the pet pig, and his motorcycle days. He had a rich life and one that has a new beginning with Matthew 25:23 “His master replied, “Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness”.

Services will be held Saturday, Oct 13, at 11:00 at the Helen Street Church of Christ.
