Amin Zagaschtoko Obituary

Amin Zagaschtoko, 74, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family and close friends on Thursday, January 15, 2026.

He was preceded in death by his father, Hakim Zagaschtoko, his mother, Gisselle Walter Zagaschtoko, his sister, Heidi Zagaschtoko, and his brother, Adam Zagaschtoko.

Amin is survived by his wife of 52 years, Gabrielle Zagaschtoko; daughter, Tanja Zagaschtoko-Mathias, and two sons, Markus Hakim Zagaschtoko and Patrick Zagaschtoko, all of Fayetteville, NC; his four grandchildren, the lights of his life, Thomas Mark Lloyd, Nikolas Anthony Lloyd, Markus "Remy" Zagaschtoko, and Alexander Lateef Mathias; five siblings, Elizabeth Karden, Rosa Majagan, Diane Bako, Albert Zagaschtoko, and Sandra Idris.

Amin Zagaschtoko was born May 6, 1951 in Nurnberg Schwabach, Germany. He immigrated to the United States and moved to Patterson, New Jersey with his parents months later in January 1952. The family later moved to Corning, New York in late 1961.

His strong work ethic and deeply principled values were forged as he grew up the oldest in a large family on a dairy farm. As he matured and entered into young adulthood, Amin attended Corning Community College and graduated with an associates degree in science. Soon after, he made the decision to serve his nation selflessly as a US Army Soldier. He joined the United States Military in March 1971, and met his soon-to-be bride, Gabi Hammer, at a Disco while serving at his first duty station in Ludwigsburg, Germany. After a whirlwind romance, the couple was married and began building a beautiful life, welcoming their three children, and moving wherever Uncle Sam needed Amin's service.

He served honorably for 21 years, eventually retiring out of Fort Bragg, NC in October 1991. As a civilian, he worked faithfully for another 20 years at Eaton Corp. Amin and Gabi planted themselves in Fayetteville, NC and created a rich life and opened their doors to countless friends and vibrant relationships. On any given day their kitchen table was full of the hubbub of people laughing, chatting, playing games, eating delicious home-cooked meals, teasing, and drinking plenty of Busch Light. The hum of their home was an extension of the hum of the love Amin carried within himself and poured out to whomever crossed that threshold on Pebblebrook Drive. Amin touched countless lives and will always be remembered.

A memorial service will be held at Rogers & Breece Funeral Home on Wednesday January 21, 2026, at 2PM. The family will be greeting guests and friends prior to the service from 1-1:45PM.
