Carl Ronald Banfield, 88, of Fayetteville, NC, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2025. Born in Bellaire, Ohio on September 19, 1936, he was the son of Mansell and Helen (VanWye) Banfield. Carl lived a life defined by quiet strength, sharp wit, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.
A formal member of the U.S. Air Force, Carl brought discipline, resilience, and humility to everything he did. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather—a calm, steady presence who led with few words and a strong heart.
Carl was happiest outdoors, whether working with his hands or simply enjoying the stillness of nature. He cherished the peaceful moments with his wife, Karen, and the joyful noise of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
On June 17, 1975, he was married to his wife Karen A. Banfield, who survives.
In addition to his wife Karen, he is survived by his children Carl (Jan) Banfield, Lisa (Dennis) Rasnick, Ben (Stephanie) Reid, and Carla (William) Tallon; his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his siblings Larry Banfield, Delores Witchey, and Eugene Banfield. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Cindy Smith, his brother Gary Banfield and nephew Robert Banfield.
In keeping with Carl’s wishes, no formal service will be held. His family invites those who knew him to remember him in their own way—with a quiet reflection, a shared joke, or time spent in nature.
