Carolyn Faircloth Obituary

Carolyn Crumpler Faircloth, 74, of Hope Mills, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, January 9, 2025.

Born on March 5, 1950 in Cumberland County, Carolyn was the daughter of the late Charles Crumpler, Jr. and Edna “Louise” Maultsby Crumpler. She was a retired realtor and broker with Hobgood, Jones & Associates of Fayetteville, where she proudly worked for over thirty years. She was dedicated to her clients and her career, working hard her entire life, no matter what the job entailed.

Early in life, Carolyn loved to dance, draw, play sports, cook and garden. She passed on all of these traits to her children and grandchildren. She had a love of music, all types and always had music on in her house. Anyone who knew Carolyn, knew her immense love of coffee. No matter the season or time of year, she would be drinking her coffee and eating her Bavarian cream donuts. Carolyn also loved to play cards, especially Phase 10 and I don’t believe anyone ever won a hand against her! Carolyn was very artistic and used that talent to “create” cakes for all of her family and friends that looked like works of art. From cartoon characters, to water features, to cakes that looked like a football stadium or a hot air balloon, if Carolyn could draw it, she could bake and decorate a cake to look like it. Not only was it beautiful, it was delicious. What an amazing cook she was. She was also a star softball player back in the 80’s, playing shortstop, having the nickname “Silver Bullet” – because she threw so fast and hard, you couldn’t see the ball going to first. She was so proud of that. Up until the Summer of 2023, Carolyn was canning her vegetables – that was just her way. She loved to have a huge garden and could grow anything, always having a beautiful garden and yard. She was known for her delicious food, baking and recipes, especially her pound cakes, fruit cakes and chicken salad. If you were lucky enough to eat with Carolyn, you never forgot how delicious it was.

Carolyn also loved beach music, going to beach music festivals in the late 90’s and she well known as “Mama Jama”. She also loved shooting pool. She was quite the pool shark and taught anyone who wanted to learn the “tricks” how to play. Carolyn was always the one with a joke or saying something to try to make you laugh, cheer you up or would tell you like it was. She didn’t hold back. She was the life of the party and so much fun to be around. Then sickness took over her life, and she was never the same. She leaves behind two daughters, a son; two grandsons and two granddaughters.

Carolyn is survived by two daughters, Denise “Crickett” Cimaglia Brewer; Deanna “Dina” Honeycutt Fulcher and husband, Louis “Brother” Fulcher, IV; son, Danny “DJ” Honeycutt, Jr.; sister, Linda Crumpler Poor (Joseph) and brother, Charles Crumpler III (Sonya); grandsons, Logan Brewer and Luke Brewer and granddaughters, Billie Faith and Arlee Shaye Fulcher. She also leaves behind her best friends, who were more like sisters to her: Tammy Berry, Cecilia Dukes and Jeannie Scott, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Carolyn had a lifelong love for animals, a passion that brought her immense joy and companionship. Her last three cherished pets Cinnamon, Pecan, and Roxy, along with her beloved pet fish Cardinal, held a special place in her heart. Cardinal, the only living pet, continues to carry on the love she shared with all her animals. Known for her sharp sense of humor, Carolyn often joked about loving her pets more than people, a sentiment that spoke to the deep bond she shared with her beloved fur babies and aquatic companion. Her love for animals was a defining and heartwarming part of her life.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the entire staff of 3HC, who were so caring and compassionate in taking care of Carolyn. Also, to her caregivers, Tonia Holland and Ashley Hollingsworth who were so patient with Carolyn, no matter how difficult times were. A very special thank you to Cindy Maultsby Burt, Carolyn’s cousin, who stepped in and helped take care of her these last nine months, like she was more a sister, than a cousin. We appreciate you more than you know. Carolyn would not have lived as long as she did had it not been for the wonderful care she received from all of her loving caregivers, family and friends, so – thank you.

Per Carolyn’s request, there will be only a small, private service held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, Carolyn’s wishes were to help those who couldn’t afford vet bills and hopes everyone will give what they were going to spend on a flower to her rescue fund at Southern Oaks Animal Hospital, where she took her dogs. If you would like to contribute, please call 910-424-3011, or mail to Southern Oaks Rescue Fund, 5733 Rockfish Rd, Hope Mills, NC 28348.
