David Earl Autrey, 75, of Fayetteville, North Carolina passed away on October 12, 2024. He was born on November 9, 1948 to David Elbert and Myrtie Mae (Welborn) Autrey in Texarkana, Texas. After graduating from Texarkana Senior High School in 1967, he worked as a sales clerk at Wholesale Electric in Texarkana and attended Texarkana College to obtain an Associates of Arts degree in 1969. On June 5, 1972, he married Mary N. Rhymer with whom they had a son, Daniel. On September 4, 1980, he married Margie Jane Socha in McAllen, Texas, and they lived in Houston, Texas while he worked as a sales clerk for W. W. Grainger. In 1992, David completed the Memorial Hospital System School of Radiologic Technology two-year radiological technician program in Houston and worked over twenty years as a radiological technician in Texarkana, Texas and Las Vegas, Nevada, before retiring in 2016.
An avid reader, David was a fan of science fiction and carried that love into television and movies, including Doctor Who, Star Trek, and Marvel’s Agents of Shield. A quiet and unassuming man, David was known to treat others kindly and honestly. David also enjoyed woodworking and home improvement projects. In his earlier adult years, David obtained a pilot’s license and even rode cross-country on a motorcycle.
David is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 42 years, Margie Socha Autrey, and his brother, Ralph Lynn Autrey of Garland, Texas. David is survived by his son Dr. Daniel Eric Autrey of Fayetteville, North Carolina and brother Robert Lee Autrey of Leander, Texas.
