Jane Marcy Hollis, 101, of Fayetteville passed away July 8, 2024 at Cape Fear Valley Hospital after complications from a stroke.
Born December 21, 1922 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret Marcy. Also preceding her in death were her beloved husband of 52 years, John T. Hollis, Jr, daughter Patricia Ann Lester, granddaughter Marcy Lynn Scott and siblings Harriet Pappas, Joseph Marcy Jr, Charles Marcy, Marion Hughes, Betty Ricenak, Margaret Marcy and Robert Marcy.
Our mother was a devoted homemaker, raising four daughters before embarking on 47 years of employment with Roses Department Store. Being known for having a conscientious work ethic and strong-minded attitude, she enjoyed working until the young age of 89. Upon her retirement, she lovingly cared for her husband during his extended illness until his death in 2020.
Mama enjoyed staying on the cutting edge of fashion wearing colorful clothing with classy jewelry that accentuated her fiery red hair and sassy personality. Of course, her hobbies were shopping on QVC, HSN and JTV. However, her favorite hobby was the love of bestowing gifts to family and friends for no particular reason.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Charlotte Trypack Scott (Buck), Jonette Trypack Williams (Tim) and Tanya Hollis Walker (Gene). She is also survived by grandsons Stewart Scott, Tony Slaydon (Mary), Adam Mooney and great-grandson Stephen Slaydon.
Her family will be forever grateful to her caregivers Jacene, Susan, Mozella and the staff of Harmony at Hope Mills for the loving kindness and tender care they provided for her.
On Thursday, August 1, 2024, a visitation will be held in the upstairs chapel of Manna Church on Cliffdale Road at 10:00 am. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 11:30 am with Pastor Wayne Tate officiating. At 2:00 pm, a burial service will be held at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery.
To honor our beautiful mother and her passion for elegance and bling, her family requests that you wear YOUR colorful clothing and YOUR favorite bling.
