Meagan Bess Whitaker

Meagan Bess Whitaker, 42, loving daughter of Belva Hawley DeMendoza and the late Horace G. Whitaker, Jr., passed away peacefully on September 13, 2024.

In addition to her mother, Meagan is survived by her brother, Adam J. Whitaker; her niece, Sophia Whitaker; her two nephews, Cain and Caden Whitaker; her grandmother, Joyce Hawley; her very close friend, Timothy Gallant; her stepmother, Sara Whitaker; and her stepbrothers, Matthew Coryell and Marcus Coryell (Tina Coryell).

Meagan is also survived by her dog, Mischief, whom she called her baby.

Meagan was a caring person.  She cared for many people both physically and with calls of compassion and cheer. Meagan was a CNA at Betsy Johnson Hospital in Dunn and worked as a Certified Dental Assistant for the SMILES Program and at dental clinics at Fort Liberty. Meagan was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, JEB Stuart Chapter.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Massey Hill Baptist Church on Sunday, September 22, 2024 at 3:00 PM. Visitation with the family be at 2:00 PM in the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Meagan’s honor to:  Lower Cape Fear Life Care, The Angel Hospice House, 206 Warrior Trail, Whiteville, NC 28472.
