Richard Horace Mason, 78, of Fayetteville passed away April 28, 2026.
Richard was born in Cumberland County January 22, 1948. He struggled early in life due to a car accident when he was 18 years old that affected his short-term memory. Over time he developed clever skills that allowed him to overcome obstacles and have a successful barber career. He had several jobs over the years and to everyone’s surprise he went to Barber school at the age of 50 and spent many years working at the Haymont Barbershop.
He was a wonderful son, brother and friend to all. Richard had a great sense of humor and loved spending time with family and friends. He was very frugal, spending very little on himself but he was the first person to offer support when family and friends were in need. He lived by his faith in Jesus Christ. We loved him dearly and miss him very much.
He was preceded in death by his father Creighton H. Mason, Mother Eva Mae Curry (James) and his sister Deborah K. Mason. He is survived by sister’s Maria Fountain and Lori Munsey of Fayetteville, brother John Mason (Kathy) of Logan, WV, and brother Michael Mason (Pat) of Clayton, NC and many wonderful nephews and nieces.
A visitation for Richard will be held Thursday May 7, 2026 from 4:00 pm -5:30 pm at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home.
Following the visitation there will be a memorial service at Rogers and Breece Chapel, 500 Ramsey Street, Fayetteville, NC, 28301.
