SGM (RET.) Larry Williams Obituary

Sergeant Major Larry John Williams (RET.), passed away peacefully, in his home on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at the age of 81. Born May 23, 1944, to Leroy and Ruth (Taylor) Williams of Montebello, California. He graduated from Edgewood High School in West Covina.

He led a remarkable life filled with dedication and service to our country. He served honorably in the United States Army for 28 years with the 1st Armored Division, spending most of his service in Germany and achieving the rank of Sergeant Major and earning a bachelor’s degree during his military career. After retirement from the Army, he arrived in Fayetteville, NC. He joined the staff at the Ft. Bragg Safety office and soon after, met and married his wife of almost 21 years. With 50 years in the Federal Government, he received numerous awards for his exceptional contributions to our nation’s defense and safety.

Larry was very organized and always busy building or repairing something. He was a problem solver on just about any topic. As a young adult, he held a passion for music and car clubs. He enjoyed “poker night” with friends, and maintaining a beautiful yard. He loved football and in the past year he enjoyed watching basketball. A lifelong bowler, until sadly, medical issues arose.

Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth; children Phillip, Linda, partner Courtney, and Meghann; grandchildren, Zoe, Quade, Zach, Isabelle, Landen and Lochlan; nephew, James; and several cousins; and lifelong friend, Bill Williams. All of whom will cherish his memory.

The family are thankful for the care and loving service of Latoya, Claudette, Michelle, Jessica, Penny, Cari and the entire staff of Gentiva Hospice and Native Angels during our time of need.

A memorial service to celebrate Larry’s life will be held at 2:00 on Friday, October 10, 2025, at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, 8220 Bragg Blvd. Ft Bragg, NC with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the charity of your choice.
